Il meeting
panasiatico, tenutosi a Bali nel novembre 2006, ha consentito ai
membri e consultori del Pontificio Consiglio della Cultura di fare
il punto sulla radicazione di Gesù Cristo nel vivo delle culture
asiatiche.
Dal bilancio sono
emerse sia la sorprendente operosità della spiritualità cristiana
nella varietà delle culture e delle religioni presenti nel mondo
Asiatico, sia l’istanza di ricercare nuove vie e metodi per
l’evangelizzazione che, nella situazione presente, esige “un impegno
di sincero e autentico dialogo tra le culture e tra le religioni,
basato sul rispetto, la reciprocità, l'apertura e la carità", come
ricordato da Benedetto XVI nel suo messaggio di saluto, nel quale ha
anche sottolineando come l'Asia rappresenti un "terreno fertile,
dove seminare la Parola di Dio e ottenere un ricco raccolto".
Il meeting
panasiatico è stato seguito con attenzione dai media e dalla
comunità internazionale e ha offerto importanti prospettive per la
missione della Chiesa del prossimo futuro.

Denpasar, situated in Bali, an
idyllic island of the Indonesian Archipelago, where faith and
culture meet and where one can breathe inculturation in life and
liturgy, was the venue of
a Pan-Asian Meeting
organized by the Pontifical Council for
Culture from 26th to the 30th
of November, 2006.
Members and Consultors of the Pontifical Council
for Culture from Asia and the Presidents of the National
Episcopal Commissions for Culture, most of them Bishops,
exchanged views, shared their experiences and spoke about their
various pastoral endeavours in this vast populous continent, a
veritable cultural mosaic, which hosts an immense variety of
races, heirs to a wide range of ancient cultures. It was a
unique opportunity to discover new ways of assimilating the
positive cultural values in Asia into the life of the Church as
well as expressing the Catholic way of life through the existing
local cultural features. The participants took stock of the
cultural situation and sought ways of facing the many challenges
the Church has to meet.
“If
the faith is to put down deep roots, the missionary also needs to
take steps to inculturate the Gospel message so that it is expressed
and lived in the language of local traditions and practices,
provided always that any hint of relativism or syncretism is
avoided.” – Pope Benedict XVI, in his message to the Pan-Asian
Convention on Culture at Bali, Indonesia in November, 2006.
