Ha svolto la sua attività pastorale con i migranti nella frontiera Messico-Stati Uniti 

Daniel Groody è docente di teologia presso l’Università di Notre Dame (USA). Ha pubblicato Border of death, valley of life: an immigrant journey of heart and spirit, Rowman and Littlefield Press, 2002 ed altri saggi su libri e riviste specializzate.  È anche autore e regista del documentario Dying to live: a migrant’s journey sull’esperienza degli immigrati messicani e centroamericani in viaggio verso gli USA.

Descrizione

L’impatto sociale, economico e politico delle migrazioni di milioni di persone s’ impone all’attenzione di molti e suscita dibattiti di interesse vario. Mentre  scienze umane, come l’antropologia e la sociologia, da tempo seguono l’andamento del fenomeno della mobilità nel nostro pianeta, aggiornando via via le loro analisi, la teologia sembra sia rimasta ai margini di un lavoro di approfondimento interpretativo globale.

 I saggi contenuti in questo volume rappresentano quindi lo sforzo di un qualificato gruppo internazionale di teologi che, da più prospettive, indagano il fenomeno con l’intento di prefigurare un coinvolgimento ecclesiale responsabile e profetico in un mondo la cui geografia umana è in rapido cambiamento.

Questo imponente ‘segno dei tempi’ pone infatti due sfide: riaffermare che la missione con i migranti è una dimensione fondamentale della Missio Dei che attraversa, anima e conduce la Missio Ecclesiae in spazi e tempi propri di un  ‘pianeta in movimento’; tradurre l’esperienza di vita e di fede degli stessi migranti in via che orienta la teologia e la prassi verso un’evangelizzazione anch’essa in movimento.

Editors

Gioacchino Campese is Professor of Theology at the SIMI. He has edited Migration, religious experience, and globalization, Center for Migration Studies, 2003, and written essays on the theme of theology and pastoral of migrations, published in books and the specialised press. He has carried out his pastoral activities with migrants on the frontier between Mexico and the United States.

 

Daniel Groody is Professor of Theology at Notre Dame University (USA). He has published Border of death, valley of life: an immigrant journey of heart and spirit, Rowman and Littlefield Press, 2002, and other essays published in books and the specialised press. He is also the author and director of the documentary Dying to live: a migrant’s journey on the experience of Mexican and Central American migrants travelling towards the USA.

Description

The social, economic and political impact of the migration of millions of people attracts the attention of many and gives rise to varied discussions. While the human sciences, such as anthropology and sociology, for quite a while now, have been following the trends of mobility on our planet, updating their analysis year by year, theology seems to have remained on the margin of studies aimed at further investigating the global interpretation of this phenomenon. 

The essays presented in this volume, therefore, are the result of the effort made by a team of qualified international theologians, who investigate the phenomenon from a number of viewpoints, for the purpose of determining a responsible and prophetic approach by the Church, in a world in which human geography is rapidly changing.  

This significant “sign of the times”, in fact, poses two challenges: to reassert the principle that the mission with migrants is a fundamental aspect of the Missio Dei, which crosses, permeates and leads the Missio Ecclesiae in the spaces and the time of a “moving planet”; to translate the experience of life and faith of moving migrants, who orient theology and practise towards a process of evangelization that is also on the move.
