BACCARI LUCIANO ha conseguito i gradi accademici di fisica e filosofia presso l'Università "La Sapienza" di Roma e di teologia presso la Pontificia Università Lateranense, dove attualmente insegna, interessandosi del fenomeno della rivelazione, sia dal punto di vista storico-fenomenologico che da quello strettamente epistemico, come segnalano in particolare le sue opere più recenti, rispettivamente, Rivelazione nelle religioni (Roma 1996) e Episteme e rivelazione (Roma 2000).

Nei confronti delle scienze della natura l’uomo si trova oggi costretto a scegliere se accettare con rassegnazione l’apparente ineluttabilità del loro senso pragmatico o se guardare con fiducia all’indicazione che pure da esse proviene di una esigenza di comprensione non riducibile alle categorie dell’uso.
La scelta di senso pragmatico o religioso della verità e dell’esistenza non è determinata dal sapere scientifico, sebbene sia da esso indirettamente sorretta in entrambe le direzioni, ma emerge dalla riflessione sulla duplice indicazione epistemica che a ben vedere lo contraddistingue.
L’una, diretta o interna, trova espressione nel concetto di legge naturale, che costituisce il metodo della rivelazione essenziale dell’oggetto del conoscere; l’altra, indiretta o esterna, è significativa della comparsa esistenziale di ogni cosa, ossia il miracolo, evento al tempo stesso certissimo ma assolutamente imprevedibile dalle procedure della scienza.
Un’indagine preliminare sui concetti di legge naturale e di miracolo evidenzia non soltanto la loro stretta correlazione, ma anche la peculiarità dei due metodi conoscitivi, che risalgono all’oggettività dell’essere, l’uno, e all’unicità dell’esistenza, l’altro, i soli e fondamentali metodi dell’esperienza umana.
La distinzione non significa però separazione bensì implicazione, e alla conoscenza scientifica si mostra anzi indispensabile la premessa epistemica del miracolo.
Nella correlazione dei due metodi, del miracolo e della legge naturale, si rileva quindi il doppio volto del fenomeno dell’esistenza.
Ciò consente di considerare del tutto fuori posto una contrapposizione assoluta tra l’indagine religiosa e l’indagine scientifica, origine di tanti travagli, e svelare meglio il senso di termini quali libertà, necessità, decisione, come anche gli ambiti problematici espressi dal teismo e dalla considerazione dell'umana contingenza.

The
Author
LUCIANO BACCARI got the degree in
physics and philosophy at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome
and of theology at the Pontifical Lateranense University,
where he teaches at present. He is studying the phenomenon of
revelation both from the historical-phenomenological point of
view and from the strictly epistemic one, as suggested by his
most recent works, Rivelazione nelle religioni (Roma 1996) and
Episteme e rivelazione (Roma 2000).
Description
When dealing with natural
sciences, man has to choose whether to resign and accept the
apparent ineluctability of the course of the events or else to
trust and grasp the indications that come from the events
themselves: we can’t reduce nature to the simple use of it.
The choice of a pragmatic or a
religious sense of truth and of existence, is not determined
by the scientific knowledge, though it is indirectly supported
by it in both directions, but it emerges from a reflection on
the double epistemic indication that marks it. One, whether
direct or indirect, finds an expression in the concept of
natural law, that is the method of the essential revelation of
the knowledge; the other, indirect or external, is expressive
of the existential appearance of all things, namely the
miracle, an event that is, at the same time, utterly certain
and yet absolutely unpredictable by science.
A preliminary investigation on the
concepts of natural law and miracle, highlights their strict
correlation, but also the distinctiveness of the two cognitive
methods. One refers to the objectivity of the being, the other
to the uniqueness of the existence, and these two are the only
and basic methods of the human experience. Distinction does
not mean separation, yet implication. And the epistemic
premise of miracle is indispensable to the scientific
knowledge.
In the correlation of the two
methods –of the miracle and of the natural law- the double
face of the phenomenon of existence is then revealed.
Therefore we can assert that an absolute contraposition
between the religious and the scientific investigation is to
be rejected, and we can then better disclose the sense of
terms such as liberty, necessity, decision, as well as the
problematic concepts expressed by theism and by the
consideration of the human contingency.
