Description
Graz,
the European capital of culture in 2003, was the venue for a
continental European meeting held between May 21-24, organised
by the Pontifical Councial for Culture and chaired by Cardinal
Poupard.
European
bishops and councillors met with about 60 bishops, presidents of
the Episcopal Commission for culture of several European
countries, sharing their own points of view, experiences and
pastoral initiatives about the decisive challenges for
evangelisation and the future of Church:
-
The
spread of relativism and religious indifference instead of
militant atheism present in European culture till the fall
of Berlin wall.
-
The
need to promote new forms of dialogue between faith and
cultures so that European cultural identity could be
continually renewed, deepening its vital link with the
Gospel.
-
The
break in traditio fidei and in the transmission of culture
as a serious and worrying threat for our time.
The
meeting then concluded with a round table discussion,
organized with the Graz Faculty of Theology, around the theme
"the signs of hope in contemporary culture"
All
testimonies collected in this work constitute an important
contribution to the promotion of a process of European
integration based on the values of Christian faith.

Pastoral

everybody wishing to understand the role of church in the
